XMODULE at AUTONOMY FORUM 2026: Modular buildings for energy-independent infrastructure

In September, the XMODULE team attended AUTONOMY:FORUM 2026 in Kyiv — a professional platform dedicated to autonomy, energy resilience, and uninterrupted operations for businesses, communities, and critical infrastructure.

For XMODULE, this topic has practical relevance, as the company already designs and manufactures specialized modules for energy and technical equipment. Participation in the forum provided an opportunity to discuss the development of decentralized energy systems and autonomous infrastructure with industry representatives.

We are sharing the key trends shaping the development of autonomous energy systems and creating new challenges for modular construction.

Energy Resilience for Communities and Businesses

One of the key topics of the forum was cooperation between government institutions, businesses, communities, financial institutions, and international partners in implementing energy autonomy projects. Today, businesses and communities are gradually moving away from individual backup power sources toward integrated systems that can combine on-site generation, energy storage systems, and local engineering infrastructure.

This approach is particularly important for manufacturing companies, critical infrastructure facilities, and institutions where interruptions in electricity or heat supply have a direct impact on operational processes.

BESS and the Development of Decentralized Energy Systems

BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) is one of the promising areas currently undergoing rapid development. Such systems make it possible to store electricity and use it when needed: during grid outages, periods of peak demand, or as part of a local energy supply system.

XMODULE works with engineering companies on the implementation of integrated projects for the energy sector. The company designs and manufactures modular buildings for housing technical and battery equipment, control systems, and maintenance infrastructure. Floor area, structural design, ventilation, temperature conditions, engineering systems, and access to equipment are determined in accordance with the technical specification. This is where modular construction becomes an integral part of energy infrastructure.

Cogeneration and Autonomous Heat Supply

Another area that received significant attention was the decentralization of heat supply and cogeneration. Cogeneration units simultaneously produce electrical and thermal energy. The heat generated during electricity production can be used for heating, hot water supply, or technological processes.

For businesses and communities, this creates an opportunity to establish local energy supply systems and reduce the dependence of individual facilities on centralized infrastructure. In this context, not only the energy equipment itself matters, but also the ready-to-use infrastructure required for its installation and operation.

Why Modular Technology Is Suitable for Energy Facilities

An energy module is not simply a container in which equipment is installed. The structure is designed in accordance with its intended purpose, technical specifications, and the characteristics of the equipment.

Depending on the project, the module can incorporate electrical networks, lighting, ventilation, air conditioning, thermal insulation, fire alarm systems, technological openings and doors, as well as the necessary areas for equipment installation and subsequent maintenance. Manufacturing the structure under factory-controlled conditions makes it possible to complete a significant portion of the work before delivery to the site.

The module can also be adapted to a containerized format or installed on a chassis if the equipment needs to be moved between different sites.

XMODULE has practical experience in implementing precisely such non-standard engineering solutions. The company has been developing its specialized module segment for several years. Production of fully welded buildings and cooperation with the energy and oil & gas sectors began as early as 2017. Today, together with engineering companies, XMODULE develops specialized technical solutions: modular server buildings, modules for battery equipment, modular boiler houses, and other facilities designed to accommodate engineering systems.

Completed XMODULE Projects for the Energy and Industrial Sectors

XMODULE’s experience makes it possible to work not only with standard modular buildings, but also with facilities whose structures are designed around specific technological equipment.

Battery Module

One of XMODULE’s completed projects is a fully welded technical module for housing and servicing battery equipment. The 15 m² module is based on a container structure. Four container doors — two on each side — provide wide access to the battery equipment during installation, inspection, and maintenance.

PIR insulation is installed around the perimeter of the structure, while a split-system air conditioner helps maintain the required temperature conditions. The project was completed within 30 working days.

Modular Server Building

Another example of a specialized solution is a 15 m² modular server building.

During the design process, requirements for protecting equipment from moisture and overheating were taken into account, along with the possibility of installing a generator and connecting additional equipment. This approach demonstrates an important advantage of modular technology: first, the equipment specifications and operating conditions are defined, and then the technical facility is designed around those requirements.

Chassis-Mounted Module for Electrical Substation Switchgear Cabinets

For applications where mobility is essential, XMODULE uses chassis-mounted modules. One such project was developed to accommodate electrical substation switchgear cabinets. The module includes power supply, lighting, a fire alarm system, air conditioning, and ventilation.

This solution combines a technical room and equipment into a single mobile complex that can be relocated depending on the operational needs of the company.

Mobile Welding Station

XMODULE also applies modular technology to specialized industrial processes. For KSEZO, the company implemented a mobile welding complex for high-precision rail welding in field conditions. The 17.5 m² module features a reinforced fully welded frame, is mounted on a chassis, and includes a dedicated mounting platform for a rotary manipulator. The structure also incorporates aluminum stairs, technological doors, and ventilation grilles. The project implementation period was 50 days.

Autonomous Chassis-Mounted Personnel Module

Mobility and autonomy are important not only for equipment, but also for personnel working at remote industrial and infrastructure facilities.

For Ukrtransgaz, XMODULE manufactured a 22 m² industrial welfare module mounted on a chassis. The space is divided into a changing room, a rest area, an area with a solid-fuel stove, and a corridor. The structure is adapted for operation under the relevant geographical conditions and can be installed wherever a mobile personnel facility is required.

Solar Panels as Part of an Autonomous Building Energy System

To increase the autonomy of a modular facility, different energy sources and energy supply systems can be combined. One such solution is the use of solar power generation.

When developing projects, XMODULE provides for the integration of solar panels into modular facilities. This makes it possible to use solar power as an energy source both for the equipment and for the facility itself.

This means that the customer’s requirement can be broader than simply manufacturing a building: the task may involve creating a modular facility adapted to a defined level of autonomy and specific operating conditions.

From Energy Equipment to Ready-to-Use Modular Infrastructure

One of the main conclusions the XMODULE team drew from AUTONOMY:FORUM is that the development of decentralized energy systems requires more than new generation sources and energy storage systems. It also requires infrastructure in which equipment can be installed, connected, protected, and maintained.

XMODULE’s practical experience already includes modules for battery equipment, modular server buildings, mobile chassis-mounted technical modules, and specialized industrial solutions. Where required, modular facilities can also be additionally equipped with autonomous energy supply systems.

For XMODULE, participation in AUTONOMY:FORUM is therefore an opportunity not only to follow developments in the energy market, but also to understand the new technical requirements of customers and take them into account when designing modular buildings for industry and energy infrastructure.
