XMODULE delivers modular medical instrument reprocessing complex

Before a surgeon begins an operation, every medical instrument undergoes a complex cycle of cleaning, disinfection and sterilisation. The safety of patients and the uninterrupted operation of surgical suites depends directly on the quality of this process.
This need is particularly acute today, as Ukrainian hospitals operate under wartime conditions and medical infrastructure must be ready to respond to unpredictable challenges — and be fully operational immediately after installation.
It was to address precisely this need that XMODULE, at the initiative of the International Committee of the Red Cross, delivered a modular medical instrument reprocessing complex.
A modern engineering project for the healthcare sector
The modular building of 91 sq. m consists of five factory-built modules that, once assembled, form a single integrated functional complex. The structure is built on a steel frame with PIR sandwich panels and is equipped with all necessary engineering systems: ventilation, electrical supply, water supply, drainage, building automation systems and CCTV.
The design was developed in accordance with current requirements for centralised sterilisation departments. The complex provides a complete medical instrument reprocessing cycle — from the receipt of used instruments through cleaning, disinfection and sterilisation to the issue of ready sterile sets for surgical suites.
The building features strict functional zoning: dirty, clean, sterile, technical and utility zones are arranged to completely eliminate cross-contamination between staff and instrument flows. This spatial organisation is one of the fundamental requirements for the safe operation of a sterilisation department.
The complex was manufactured at XMODULE's production facility in Kremenchuk, complies with current Ukrainian legislation, holds a certificate of conformity and is ready for operation.
Mobility as a strategic advantage
Unlike conventional construction, a modular complex can be installed in significantly less time and, if required, dismantled and relocated to another site. This was one of the key advantages of the project.
As Scott Dusé, Head of the ICRC Sub-Delegation in Dnipro, noted: "The main goal of this project is to save lives. We wanted to create a sterile complex and at the same time make it mobile, so that if necessary it could be moved to wherever it is needed most."
The new complex has created modern working conditions for staff and significantly improved the efficiency of the sterilisation process.
According to Viktoriia Mikhina, Head of the Sterilisation Unit, modern equipment and proper spatial organisation will make it possible to substantially increase throughput and deliver an even higher level of safety for patients.
"Modern autoclaves, modern machines and modern sterilisation control indicators — these are crucial in our work. They mean sterility, the health of our patients and speed of operation," said Viktoriia Mikhina.
Modular technologies for healthcare infrastructure development
The delivery of this project is further confirmation that modern modular construction can effectively address complex healthcare infrastructure challenges.
For the XMODULE team, this project represented important experience in creating specialised medical infrastructure. It confirmed that modular technologies are capable of meeting the high standards of the healthcare sector and providing modern working conditions for medical staff. We are confident that this technology will help medical institutions develop their infrastructure more rapidly — including modular hospitals, paramedic posts and other facilities — and deliver high-quality, safe medical care to patients.
